Privacy Policy
Effective 20 May 2026 · Open3D Viewer
Open3D Viewer is built local-first. Your 3D files never leave your device. We have no servers, no database, and no user accounts. This policy explains the few things that do happen, in plain language.
1. Who we are
Open3D Viewer ("the app", "we", "us") is an independent mobile application developed and operated by an individual developer under the name "Open3D Viewer". It is not operated by a registered company. You can reach the developer at konatalarajesh1@gmail.com.
2. The short version
- We do not ask you to create an account or sign in.
- We do not run servers or a database, and we do not upload your 3D files anywhere.
- We do not read, scan, index, or analyse the contents of your files for any purpose other than displaying them to you on your own device.
- We do not track which files you open, when, or how often.
- We have no analytics SDK and no crash-reporting SDK of our own.
- The only third party that receives data is Google AdMob, and only while the free, ad-supported version is in use.
3. What happens entirely on your device
- Viewing files. When you pick a 3D file, or open one into the app from another app's "Open in…" / share menu, the app reads that single file from your device's storage and renders it locally. The file stays in your device's sandbox. It is never transmitted off the device.
- Captures. If you tap "Screenshot" or "Record GIF", the image is generated on-device. It is only saved to your photo library or shared if you explicitly choose to. We keep no copy.
- Exports. "Export as STL / GLB" writes a converted file to a temporary folder on your device for you to share or save. We keep no copy.
- Settings. The app stores a small amount of data locally on the device only: whether you have purchased "Remove Ads", and a short list of recently opened files (their names, sizes and locations) so you can reopen them. This never leaves your device and is deleted when you uninstall the app.
4. Advertising (free version only)
If you have not purchased "Remove Ads", the app shows advertising supplied by Google AdMob (a Google service). AdMob is a third-party advertising network. To serve ads, the Google Mobile Ads SDK embedded in the app may collect and process:
- A mobile advertising identifier (IDFA on iOS, Advertising ID on Android), which you can reset or limit at any time in your device settings;
- Device and technical information — device model, operating system version, language, screen size, network type, and an IP address (used by Google to derive coarse, typically country-level, location);
- Ad-interaction data — which ad was shown, whether it was viewed or tapped, and basic fraud-prevention signals.
This data is collected by Google, not by us. We do not receive your advertising identifier or any personally identifying information from AdMob; we only see aggregate, anonymous earnings and performance reports.
Google's handling of this data is governed by Google's Privacy Policy: policies.google.com/privacy. Google's information about how it uses data from sites and apps that use its services is at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites.
iOS App Tracking Transparency
On iOS, the first time you open the app you will see Apple's tracking-permission prompt. If you decline, AdMob will serve only non-personalised (contextual) ads. The app works exactly the same either way — declining does not remove any feature.
Turning ads off
You can remove all advertising permanently with the one-time in-app purchase described below. Once purchased, the Google Mobile Ads SDK no longer requests ads.
5. In-app purchase
"Remove Ads" is a single, one-time purchase of USD 2.99 (or the local-currency equivalent). The transaction is handled entirely by Apple's App Store or Google Play. We never see or receive your name, email, card number, or any other payment detail. We have no record of who has purchased — the proof of purchase (receipt) is held on your device and by the app store. Apple and Google process this purchase under their own privacy policies.
6. Device permissions
- Photos / Media (add only). Requested only at the moment you choose to save a screenshot or recorded GIF. The app can add images to your library; it does not read your existing photos.
- Files / storage. Used only when you actively pick a file or open one into the app. The operating system shows you the file picker and the app receives only the single file you select.
- Internet. Used only by Google AdMob to fetch ads. The 3D rendering engine and all other features work fully offline.
7. Children
Open3D Viewer is a general-audience utility and is not directed at children under the age of 13 (or the equivalent minimum age in your country). We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. The advertising shown is restricted to a general "Teen"-equivalent content rating.
8. Data retention & deletion
Because we hold no data on any server, there is nothing for us to retain or delete. All on-device data (the ad-removed flag and recent-files list) is removed when you uninstall the app. To request deletion of advertising data held by Google, reset your device's advertising identifier and use the controls in your Google Account.
9. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights over personal data, for example under India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023, the EU/UK GDPR, or the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA/CPRA). These can include the right to access, correct, delete, or restrict processing of your data, and to object to or opt out of certain processing.
Since we hold no personal data ourselves, the practical ways to exercise these rights are:
- Stop all data collection — purchase "Remove Ads", or limit ad tracking in your device settings, or simply uninstall the app.
- Advertising data — exercise your rights directly with Google via your Google Account and your device's ad-identifier controls.
- Questions — email konatalarajesh1@gmail.com and we will help as far as we are able.
We do not "sell" or "share" personal information for cross-context behavioural advertising in the sense defined by the CCPA, beyond the AdMob advertising described above; declining iOS tracking or limiting your Android Advertising ID acts as an opt-out.
10. International users
The app can be used worldwide. Advertising data processed by Google may be handled on servers in countries other than your own, under Google's own safeguards. We ourselves transfer no data internationally because we collect none on a server.
11. Security
Network requests made by the ad SDK use encrypted (HTTPS/TLS) connections. Because your 3D files and app settings never leave your device, their security is governed by your device's own operating-system protections.
12. Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the "Effective" date above will be updated and the change will be noted in the app's release notes. Material changes will be made reasonably prominent. Continuing to use the app after an update means you accept the revised policy.
